Project Feature: Newtown Terrace

Posted March 2021

Sometimes the stars align. Introducing you to a recent dream project we had the pleasure of transforming - a newly purchased Newtown terrace by an award-winning girl-boss with mindful values and a laid back, social lifestyle. The brief? A low-maintenance, fit-for-purpose interior and courtyard with eco-conscious, sustainable considerations throughout. There was to be no white in sight (with the exception of the walls), no leather, no strong pattern and... (this was a first) no TV! A colour palette of deep greens, blues and greys with earthy tones were chosen to reflect an oasis of calm for the busy entrepreneur.

With sustainability at the forefront of the styling process, we opted for high quality investment pieces that are built to last well beyond a season. Instead of trend-focused purchases, we favoured ethically sourced, natural materials that embodied the homeowner’s eco-conscious values. Several local artisans are featured throughout the home with their considered furniture and wares. The master bedroom’s timber furniture suite is an example of fine craftsmanship, created by Surf Coast duo Al & Imo Handmade. In addition, Melbourne brand Armadillo & Co’s beautiful textured wool rug features in the bedroom and living area. We couldn’t go past the dreamy linen sofa designed by Aussie stylist, Sarah Ellison. In the bedrooms we've featured local favourite Pop and Scott’s planter pots and bedside table/stool to contribute to the laid back, minimal vibe of the rooms.

A cohesive range of materials were chosen to bring the brief together – think natural materials like timber, marble, wool and linen with a hint of velvet for that extra touch of luxury. Deep rich hues of emerald, navy and mustard were balanced with soft greys and warm whites throughout the interior.

A key design element of the project was to maximise the home’s small footprint. We worked with the client to brainstorm custom storage ideas to suit her specific needs, which she then took to her joiner to design and execute. Case in point - the entryway has bespoke joinery, incorporating a coat closet (complete with mirror for that final once-over before leaving the house), pull-out shoe cabinet, storage bench and open shelving that doubles as a library and display feature. We also designed the guest bedroom with multi-tasking in mind. The bedside table can also be used as a stool for the built-in dressing bench, which can be cleverly utilised as a laptop station/study nook too. An outdoor courtyard has been styled to extend the entertaining zone with a large table and plenty of seating - perfect for entertaining friends with a dinner party or casual lunch.

The overall result is a relaxed, stylish home that blends both form and function. A place that the homeowner loves spending her time in to unwind after a busy day, entertain her nearest and dearest and care for her adorable foster kittens. This lovely client often reaches out to remind us how much she loves her home and how grateful she is to have worked with Jessi Eve.
All we can say is, the feeling is absolutely mutual. View the full project and media features.
